L-FRESH The LION is a leading voice in Australia’s Hip Hop scene. Born Sukhdeep Singh to Punjabi immigrant parents in South West Sydney, he uses music to tell stories of resilience, empowerment and self-determination. A YouTube Creators for Change ambassador for Australia, he performed at the UN and has shared stages with Nas, Sir Elton John, Hanumankind, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Dead Prez and. Talib Kweli. His music releases included One, Become, SOUTH WEST, and REINCARNATED EP.
L-FRESH has performed at SummerStage (New York) for Hip Hop’s 50th anniversary and appeared twice on India’s hit music television show MTV Hustle as a special guest performer. Internationally acclaimed, he challenges tokenism while carving space for South Asian identity in global Hip Hop.
He is also a member of ‘the browns’, a Sydney-based Hip Hop collective that represents the Indian diaspora in Australia. Formed off the back of a viral cypher produced by eighty.vd, which drew over 100,000 views and international coverage including a feature by HomeGrown India, the collective brings together four artists of Indian origin: L-FRESH The LION, aywy, ZZZ, and MAANIA. Spanning North and South India, Sikh, Muslim, and Hindu faith, and a generational gap of fifteen years, ‘the browns’ are as diverse as the diaspora they represent.
