Road to South West (Part 1) - Mother Tongue

Road to South West is a short documentary of the making of L-FRESH The LION's new album, SOUTH WEST. Part 1 (of 5) is titled Mother Tongue, named after a song from the album with the same name.

In this episode, L-FRESH speaks of his relationship with his mother tongue language: Punjabi. Fluent as a child, raised in a household where English was the second language, he succumbed to the pressure of wanting to fit in, a symptom of Australia's assimilation-colonial mindset, and lost touch with his language and his culture. Speaking in a very personal way, L-FRESH shares the pain of not being able to communicate with his grandmother in his mother tongue.

We also see behind-the-scenes footage of L-FRESH and team recording the song, Mother Tongue, at Studios 301 in Sydney, Australia.
